Stash Report

More planning meant more shopping...a bit of sewing but nothing finished.

15 more yards!  Some many ideas but each one begs for more new fabric.

I started the "I Wish You a Merry Quilt a-long" ...3 times now.  I haven't finished a single block yet as I waffle back and forth about my fabric choices.  Argh!

Stash Report

I drafted the following post on August 26, 2017

Summer sewing is not happening!  Rats!  I was doing very well for a few days and then life got in the way.  10.5 hours into the feathered star block and I got a little too picky.  Made a quarter inch hole with the seam ripper as I picked out stitches.  I need motivation to get back at it.

So...what's the best way to get motivation...find another pattern you want to make.  LOL  I've been following the "I wish you a Merry Christmas" quilt-along.  There are many fantastic fabric combinations, cute designs and wonderful blocks.  After considerable deliberation, I finally decided to get started.  Of course, that meant I needed MORE fabric.

How is it that I have nearly 300 yards of fabric, and yet I still need "just a bit more" to do
 A N Y T H I N G?  2.7 yards purchased at Fabricland's sale.

Stash Report

I started Stars for a New Day which is a BOM I purchased from the Quilting Show in 2009.  It is a beautiful design by Sue Garmon.  I've been putting it off because I was worried about my skills for paper piecing.  I have all the material - also since 2009 - time to start!  I hope to finish the first month's assignments this week.

Beginning of the Feathered Star Medallion

I'm also going to start the Project of Doom this week.  It's a wonderful BOW by Jennifer Ofenstein at Fandom of Stitches.  Actually, Jennifer ran the BOW twice (2011 and 2015).  It's based on the Harry Potter books and is all paper pieced.  I have quite a few fabrics in my stash to use for the books, but needed the background material.  This accounts for 4 of the yards I purchased this week.

The other fabrics will be part of the memory quilt I'm making from Bonnie Hunter's last mystery quilt - En Provence.

Here's to summer sewing!  Lots of starting but no finishing.  I'll have to work on that soon!

Stash Report, April 23, 2017

Finally!  Something to count.  I finished the top for Emily's quilt for 2 yards out.  I also purchased backing fabric for Emily's quilt and another UFO, so 6 yards in.  2 steps forward and 6 steps back. Oh well, I'm happy to have anything forward!

I'll have to think about my yarn usage.  I bought 2 balls of purple yarn to make a shawl.  The shawl is finished, but I haven't added nor subtracted that yarn yet.

Design Wall Monday

I finished the top for Emily's quilt but still need to think about what I'll use for backing.  I put this UFO back up on my Design Wall.  I started this in late 2012 without a pattern.  I made bear paw blocks and then made the chain blocks to match the same size.  Shortly after Judy L (Patchwork Times) started making a similar quilt.  I really wish I had made smaller blocks like hers!  I also really like her borders.  (See "New Beginnings.")

My quilt is an odd size.  70 x 98.  It's too narrow for the length.  I want to add some borders, but am not sure how to proceed.  Is it ok to have different sized borders on the sides vs the ends?  Maybe I should add to more rows and make it 98 x 98.  I'll have to think about that (and go measure a bed).

Bear Paw and Chain
I ran out of space on my Design Wall, so it's sideways.  I want the bear paws in the corners, and a few of the paw blocks aren't finished yet.

My FIRST Design Wall Monday!  Yahoo.  Here's hoping this helps me to get things done!  :-)

Stash Report, April 16, 2017

Stash Report, April 16, 2017

My sewing room is finished.  My DS made me a "big board" ironing board.  I love it!  I love having a dedicated sewing room.  I'm so happy to be able to sew for a few minutes, and then walk away and come back to where I left off.  I started a baby quilt on April 1st and have only two seams left to complete the top!  Next week, I'll have something to count as "used."  Yahoo!  I'm hoping to have the quilt finished before the end of the month so that the baby's grandfather can deliver it when he goes to visit.

I washed, ironed and folded another 8.25 yards from the "hidden stash."  I made my first fabric purchase of the year this week.  8 yards.  I was looking for backing fabric for the baby quilt, but didn't find anything I really liked.  I did pick up some white and black neutrals for my Bonnie Hunter Mystery Quilt, "En Provence."  I've been sewing dark and light blue strips together as leader and enders.  I'm excited to finally be sewing on this quilt.

Stash Report January 29, 2017

Still no sewing!  I did work on my biggest UFO.  I finished painting the trim in my sewing room.  I hope to clean everything up and be ready to sew by the next Saturday.   I do still want to make a bigger ironing board/station and curtains, but they can come later.

I missed the Stash Report last week.  I haven't purchased any fabric yet this year, but have washed, ironed and folded 6 more yards from my closet to add to my stash.

UFOs - Let's Begin the Count

As I fill up my new sewing room, I'm cleaning out closets and drawers from other rooms.  Here are the UFOs I've found so far.

Starry Eyed:  A Moda Bakeshop pattern by Angela Mitchell.  I made this is 2011.  I love it, so why isn't it finished?  It needs a backing and to be quilted.  Basting the layers scares me.  I guess I better get over that or I'll never finish anything!  I hope to have this one on a bed this Christmas!

Dear Santa, I've Been Good - Lap quilt made from panel and yardage left over from Starry Eyed.  I made this in 2012.  I need to finish the borders, make a backing and quilt it.  This was the first time I did a mitred border.  I need to fix the border for the right side.

Poppy One Block Wonder - I think I made this in 2009.  I rushed to put on the borders and clearly the side borders are waving.  I need to remove them and start over.  I love making OBW's.  Each new hexagon is like opening a present.  Such a nice surprise to see what you get.  The outside border fabric is what I used to make the hexagons.  It's hanging (unfinished) in our dining room.  It looks great but would look even better finished.  I have more fabric for the borders and the backing.

Lilac One Block Wonder - I think I started this right after I made the Poppy OBW.  I gave the blocks to my SIL and she determined the placement.  I think I may have more of this fabric in one of our closets.  If I don't find any, I'll have to buy something for the backing.

Not Gobble Gobble - This quilt needs a new name.  I think I made it in 2010.  I used the left over fabric from a raggy quilt I made.  The free pattern is from Natalia Bonner at Piece N Quilt.  I need to slice the quilt, and insert the applique section.  I think that's where I stopped because I have to decide what I'm going to applique.  Flowers of some sort.

Santa is Coming Wall Hanging.  I think I made this in 2009 also.  I'm surprised with how far along this is!  The wall hanging is actually finished.  The buttons are all sewn on.  I need to find the ornaments.  I wonder what I've left to do with them.  (This was a panel I bought.)

Stash Report January 15, 2016

No sewing this week!  In fact I haven't even turned on my sewing machine in several weeks. I'm still working on setting up and organizing my sewing room.  I washed, ironed and folded 7.75 more yards.  I have more fabric in the washing machine right now, so my total will increase again next week.  I also didn't buy any new fabric.  The Stash Report stays at zero.

Stash Report

I love Judy Laquidara's blog, "Patchwork Times."  She is quite an interesting person and seems to accomplish more than most.  I have been lurking (is that the appropriate term?) in the background for several years now and really appreciate her regular posts for the Stash Report and Design Wall Monday.  I'm inspired by Judy and all of the other bloggers who link up with her.

I enjoy quilting, knitting and other crafts, but sometimes my busy schedule seems to limit my creative time more than I would like.   I was quite surprised in December when I reflected on what I had accomplished in 2016.  Although I hadn't even turned on my sewing machine or picked up my needles in several weeks, I had produced several items earlier in the year.

This year I would like to track my quilting, knitting and other crafts in a more formal way.  I hope that documenting my progress throughout the year, will keep me focused but also help me celebrate the work I am able to do.

My husband and son have built me a sewing room and I'm busy organizing it.  What a job!  I haven't had a dedicated space since 2006 and have managed to squirrel fabric in almost every room in the house.  This week I washed, ironed and folded 257.25 yards of quilting cotton!  The total astounds me, especially since I'm not done yet.  However, in all of that, I only found one duplicate fat quarter.  :-)

I also haven't counted any flannel, home decor or clothing fabric.  I have a little bit of yarn and hope to count it later this month.

Onto the Stash Report:
I did go to Fabricland this week, but left without purchasing anything. Wow!  I'm not sure that has ever happened.  I spent several hours in my sewing room this week, but no sewing yet.  I'm still organizing everything.

I'm not sure if I'll continue to count yarn in yards.  I may switch over to weight.  I'm still thinking about this.

I'm gong to try to link up to Judy's Stash Report.  I've never done this before, so hopefully I do it correctly.

Two cupboards full of quilting cotton.  It doesn't look like much, does it?  I have a few collections set aside for some specific projects stored in a dresser.
